Uniquely Wired from Boys Town Press Wins 2019 Teachers' Choice Award

UNIQUELY WIRED FROM BOYS TOWN PRESS RECEIVES THE LEARNING MAGAZINE 2019 TEACHERS’ CHOICESM  AWARD FOR CHILDREN’S BOOKS

(September 5, 2018)-- Uniquely Wired: A Story about Autism and Its Gifts by Julia Cook, and the accompanying downloadable activity bundle, has won the 2019 Teachers’ Choice Award for Children’s Books. The award, bestowed by Learning Magazine, honors products of exceptional quality and outstanding performance in the classroom and at home, and is the only awards program that is exclusively judged by teachers in the classroom. In Uniquely Wired, Cook provides an eminently readable primer of sorts, from the point of view of a child with autism, that is already widely relied upon by parents, teachers, and kids everywhere who need a little bit of help understanding their peers with autism.

“We’re so pleased that so many teachers and students are benefitting from Uniquely Wired,” says Erin Green, Director of the Boys Town Press. “Recognition from an institution like the Learning Magazine Teachers’ Choice Awards committee inspires us to continue publishing the social and emotional learning books and activity guides that we know make a real difference in the lives of children and the caring adults in their lives.”

Uniquely Wired is a one of a kind look into the life and mind of a child with autism; it rewards curiosity and helps make “uniquely wired” children more relatable to their peers. The book and downloadable activities provide answers to questions children have about their peers who may behave differently because of their autism, and equip parents and teachers with the tools to openly talk about those behaviors and to confidently and compassionately answer questions and start conversations about autism spectrum disorders.

About the Author:

With approximately two million books in print, Julia Cook is a former school counselor and teacher who never dreamed she could evolve into a national award-winning children’s author, parenting expert and inspirational speaker. She now travels the country and abroad encouraging others to follow in her footsteps. “There are so many ideas out there that need to be shared!” says Cook, who takes top research and creatively translates it into “kid language” that is both entertaining and engaging. She has the innate ability to enter the world view of a child through storybooks, giving both children the “what to say” and the “how to say it.”
