Use these engaging downloadable activities to reinforce the lessons taught in the storybook, Different Thinkers: Autism. These activities are best suited for children ages 6-12.
The Five Downloadable Activities include:
Activity 1 – Understanding Friendships – Explore friendships and answer question prompts to facilitate discussion surrounding different types of friends/social rules.
Activity 2 – Advocating for Yourself – Written prompts to explore the characters in the book, and brainstorm how they can advocate for themselves.
Activity 3 – Handling the Unexpected – Process through an example situation and write down ways to work through problems or disruptions in routine.
Activity 4 – Role Play: How to Make ‘Small Talk’ with Non-Autistic People – Suggestions and ways to practice communicating with different people and role-play different interactions.
Activity 5 – Make the Implicit Explicit – Examples for Parents/Caregivers to help clearly articulate expectations and ensure understanding.
